Chiang Mai Adventures

Yummy worm snack!

So we’ve been out and about having fun adventures here in Chiang Mai. Last night we went down to The Riverside bar where we had dinner on a long boat and cruised down the river by candlelight. I tried to take some pictures of the hotels and restaurants that were lit up as we crossed along the Mae Ping River. This is not a fast flowing River, would be very easy to swim but it’s also very dirty :/ in the dark though, all you can see is the lights on the bank.

You start by being parked at the dock and eating on the boat. Then the boat takes off and you have what you ordered until it comes back. Just a recommendation: get a few drinks and stock pile them because you won’t get anything else for the next 1.5 hours. It would’ve been nice had they told us that ahead of time… either way it was a lovely way to see the city and the little lizzies enjoyed hanging out by the ceiling lights catching all the delicious flies❤️

This morning our adventure was more cultural and fun! We took a Samlor food tour of the city. A Samlor is a carriage pulled by a bike (all one piece) and driven by a driver with calves of steel!!!

This is an outdated way of transportation given the tuk tuks, taxis, buses, cars, etc. But it’s important to cultural history so they try to carry it on. These are all driven by the older drivers as the younger generation does not choose to carry this on. Also they only hold one person so Matt and I got a fun way to see the city and race each other. We kept commenting about having to tip Matt’s deliver more so he could get a massage after 😂

Our tour guide, Non, was both kind and full of knowledge about the culture and the food. She took us to several different shops where we sampled things we had never tried before and found some new favorites!

Along the way we saw many new things as well…

And we found the flower market!

Even if you think you are familiar with a place, I highly recommend taking a local tour and discovering the depth and complexities of the culture from a native! ….. oh and if you are wondering, yes we did try the worms- crunchy and delicious and would be great with beer- however, picking worm bits from your teeth is alarming 🤣

Now on to Bangkok and the last part of the vacation….

Say good bye to Scoots 😉
