Extreme Adventures Part 2

The drive from Monteverde to La Fortuna was an adventure in itself. Again, the roads here in Costa Rica are challenging. They are dirt most of the time; half paved some of the time; full of potholes and drop offs all the time and not for the faint of heart. I drove today so the 3.5 hour neck cramp has been well earned. Once you get to a certain point the road becomes paved the entire way! OMG! However, it has more twists and turns than a formula one track and I straight up felt like a race car driver going around them..as my dad would say “Good Miada driving roads”. When you get to the part where you can see Lake Arenal, you know its worth it just for the scenery alone. The landscape changes and becomes more green, even greener than the cloud forest we came from. The twisty roads are fun and the one lane bridges are interesting. But when you make it here, its worth the trip! The volcano sits high and dominates the landscape and you pass multiple hot spring resorts on your way into Fortuna. There are a multitude of restaurants; spas; resorts; camping; excursions; and on and on along the road way. This is tourist central but its clear why. The weather gets warmer here and the vibe a little different.

We checked into our Airbnb which turns out to be in a very posh resort (athough we didnt pay resort pricing). Its gated, clean, and with a beautiful river that runs around and through the property. The room is in its own building with a giant deck off the front from which you can see the koi pond and river in front of you. Breakfast. is complimentary, there is a nice restaurant on site, 2 pools, and a spa… you better believe that booking a massage is the first thing we did when getting here.. Have to work out that 3.5 hour neck cramp from earlier.

We got settled in and immediately headed out to Tiquicia, a WELL LOVED and greatly reviewed restaurant at the end of the street from our BnB. The food lives up to the hype- we ordered Ceviche for an appetizer; couple of mango margaritas for me/couple of beers for him; a beef loin in a green salsa with papaya mash and sweet plantains (for me); a Costa Rican fried pork cassserole with a banana tortilla side and black bean paste (for him); and finished it off with a Coffee liquor and Chocolate cream drink for dessert. YUMMMMMY! 100% would recommend! Hit the supermercado on the way back for some porch beers and snacks and are winding down the night talking about plans of tomorrow… well we were sitting out on the deck until this GIANT spider bug came crawling along and I retreated like a baby into the bnb… Hey they can have the outside at night, I will happily give them their space 😉

Buenos Noches mis amigos! Tomorrow is morning massages, a hike to a waterfall, and day passes to the Hot Springs. Loving life right now!
