Buddhist is the main religion in Thailand and almost everywhere you look you will see sacred temples and brightly dressed monks. There are many rules that you should follow as a foreigner when you visit these sites (although we saw many foreigners without a clue how to act) and you should do your research before entering. Remember these are their holy sites and they are being kind enough to share with the public.

So here are some basic rules to follow (a lot of these are for women only):
1- Ladies, please dress respectfully! Do not show shoulders ( no spaghetti straps), cleavage, or anything above your knees. I highly recommend some capri pants and a t shirt.
2- Understand that monks are not allowed to touch women at all. Please do not try to pose for photos with them or try to touch or point at them. If they are coming at you on a path, be polite and get out of their way. And bow your head out of respect 😉
3- This is sacred space, don’t litter, draw on the walls, or climb on stuff!
4- Remember heads are sacred and feet are not! Don’t touch anyone on the head and don’t point to anything with your feet. That’s a pretty simple one as most of us wouldn’t do that anyways 😀
I guess there’s not a lot of rules and you think they would be pretty easy to follow but so many people disrespect them :/ if you are a good guest, you get to see fun stuff like this at Wat Pha Lat.

And you journey up the mountain, climb all the stairs, hear the bells and watch the monks at Wat Doi Sutep.

And when you journey around the city you will see the little Wats all over the place.

It’s been a fun and spiritual learning tour 🙂 hope you enjoy!
